Straight Thinking

Last Friday, precisely, got to know about the rainbow walk. A gathering of transgenders and gays celebrating their identity and life. If I had joined the group , of course with a band around my hand that states that I am straight, I would have enjoyed a good walk , supported a cause which I am sure attracted very less crowd,  and  by the time I reached Miramar , I  may have made some friends along the way. Perhaps you may wonder what  drew my attention to this cause . Maybe the fact that our  society is just too normal and no one would have time or would be interested in supporting  these special adults, a term that I have kept aside for them instead of GAY . It would feel a little odd , no doubt ,but it was not the odd feeling that kept me away from joining this walk, it was the fear of the society that I am part of. What if  my pic  appeared in the press, it  would not just get Miramar talking but the entire Goa. I assume I have friends ev...

Aiding AIDS

Aiding AIDS Broken souls amidst a competitive society, perhaps it wasn’t even their fault! AIDS a diseases once feared and dreaded amongst the literate lot of our fast growing world still creates an awakening. Technologies may have changed, life styles may have improved but how many of us have really taken time out to think of, maybe, a special case AIDS patient we have known ? With just the basic knowledge that it is an Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and mostly not contagious unless you are in close touch with blood fluids of the infected person , I really did not give a thought to the thousands who are suffering of it and   how , due to the lack of understanding from people that surround them, their world closes down to emptiness. Reading inspiring quotes and life stories   on the internet, I recollect   a case where a woman stands by her husband’s death bed, a man dying at a very young age of 32 years only, later to be told that he was dying of AIDS. A farmer who taught me a lesson

Image
The Farmer who taught me a lesson As we drove along the quite road that lead us to the borders of Goa-Maharashtra, it was wonderful feeling, a much needed break from work , couple of my close friends , it was going to be a adventurous weekend. Clueless about directions or where we were going to stay , it was a journey into the unknown. As we passed a village, we were amused at a bullock cart lying at the side of the road. We stopped a while to pose and click a few photographs against it, a bullock cart is indeed a rare sight to be seen today, being a girl who always loved the village life, and this indeed was a very good treat for me. The poor farmer who was busy with his cows, stopped a while to inquire who we were and where we were heading. We exchange pleasant words, told him a little about Goa , perhaps he may have heard about Goa, cause with a smile he inquired, weather he   would get a job in Goa , I am not really sure what my friends replied but for me, h...

Just a simple act.....

Saturday , a day set aside to complete my pending household chores. Had to rush to Panjim that day. Not being the sophiscated person that i am, i took the local city bus as usual. Many may have experienced the grievances that a traveller would have in these buses. Apart from the conductor screaming, fudhea yoh and fhatti wohse (the onesgood at these konkani spelling can ignore the error for the others it basically means in ple enlgish , push in front and fall on the others or go back and get squeezed among the others) , there are others problems, people trying to rob your purses, others just starring at you as though a woman is some sign of lustful thoughts etc. This incident happened in one such scenario. Some of these buses have the first two seats reserved for the handicapped or senior citizens, not that many of us pay much attention to what is written on these buses. Why would we, No smoking written have smokers smoking, 20 Standing written have atleast 50 squeezed in the bus. ...

Poems by Nadia M.Fernandes

Dreams It’s a world of fantasy, Taking you far from reality, Every heartfelt wish comes true, For me and for you. Loser become winners, Beggar’s, wear the rich men’s robe, Love not felt, is felt once more, Healing wounds which are sore. Heaven seems next door, Lovers not distant anymore, Wars all conquered, Peace and happiness restored. Dream, a little dream my friend, Suffering and sorrows it will end, When dusk changes to dawn, New hope it brought, try to hold on. Composed and written by Nadia M.Fernandes Down by the beach… As the stars shone above, In that clear and crystal sky, I heard your voice call my name, As the careless breeze passed me by. Saw the moonlight make love to the sea, As the busy crab hurried home, I felt your touch, you were by my side, Content, I wasn’t alone. As the sand kissed my feet, I watched the distant horizon, Saw nothing there but darkness, Until I s...

Should goan beaches be a symbol of disaster left unattended ?

Should goan beaches be a symbol of disaster left unattended ? If one observe this photograph, one can see our own Goan shores now a total mess. Apart from the majestic River Princess which now seems to be an attraction to the Candolim beach, the menace of stray dogs is yet another problem. As I visited this beach to enjoy my evening, some of the goods thing that really caught my eye was its beautiful white sand, its inviting shacks, which luckily were not too many, the beautiful sunset and couple of tourist that were just enjoying the dusk…… a reminder of what our beaches were and presently are. Goa is still a tourist destination and we Goans should be proud of this fact, but what are we doing to preserve its beaches ? Its been years now that the River Princess issue has been in the limelight, perhaps a lot of talks and political discussions, but the fact remains, this huge boat is not lifted from the candolim shores. Why does it take years for a task like this t...

The people that matter………

Through out our lives we meet a lot of these god created creatures called “people”. First our parents, our siblings, next our friends , neighbors and others who make our life a total misery, our boss, our girlfriends/boyfriends etc. We could classify them as good, bad or just ok types. As learnt from a friend, in every bad person, there is always a little good in them, I agree, its true. Am sure even Hitler had something good in him, aah ya, artist!!! , he was a fine artist. I think he would have been the second Picasso if he only concentrated on this line and never entered politics. Anyways , in spite of the World War’s we can still appreciate the fact the he had some thing good in him. Well as far as I go, have come across a variety of them (these so called people), the lustful, the betrayers, the egoist, the friendly type, the cute types, the helpful, the playful, the pranksters but out of all these , the one that comes to my mind very often is a poor vegetable vendor.hmmm, interest...
