The people that matter………

Through out our lives we meet a lot of these god created creatures called “people”. First our parents, our siblings, next our friends , neighbors and others who make our life a total misery, our boss, our girlfriends/boyfriends etc.

We could classify them as good, bad or just ok types. As learnt from a friend, in every bad person, there is always a little good in them, I agree, its true. Am sure even Hitler had something good in him, aah ya, artist!!! , he was a fine artist. I think he would have been the second Picasso if he only concentrated on this line and never entered politics. Anyways , in spite of the World War’s we can still appreciate the fact the he had some thing good in him.

Well as far as I go, have come across a variety of them (these so called people), the lustful, the betrayers, the egoist, the friendly type, the cute types, the helpful, the playful, the pranksters but out of all these , the one that comes to my mind very often is a poor vegetable vendor.hmmm, interesting isn’t it !! why not a cute guy that I know or the priest that inspired me !!.. let me tell you why……….

Let me relate you the incident. I was on my way for some Friday marketing shopping in Mapusa. The incident happened just at the entrance. I saw delicious looking jackfruit seeds all set to be sold. Looking at the texture, the size I assumed that plastic bag filled would cost me Rs 20/- Well everyone was selling it at the rate, why would this be less. I approached the vegetable vendor , who greeted me with a broad smile and said nothing more. Usually when I go purchasing fruits or vegetables , there are a whole lot of them literally begging you to purchase their stuff of the day, some get a little too irritating too but not this one. Anyways, as I was interested in the jackfruit, I asked how much it was, she said, 10 Rs. I was taken aback, 10 Rs did I hear it right ??!! Kitlem ghe ? I asked her again, “dha rupya bai “, she repeated with a smile. I picked two of those plastic bag. Mom, who was along with me noticed she had bananas too for sale, big, huge one that would cost at Rs 30/- a dozen or more, the usual market rates. She sold it for 20 Rs only and was so generous that she gave us a little extra of the jackfruit and banana. WOW ! what a woman ! One would be only satisfied getting the extra fruits, for me it was more. This poor woman was so blessed, she had nothing, yet everything ! She was miserably poor but still generous at heart, she wasn’t pretty yet had a beautiful smile ! how many of these people have u come across who are genuinely sweet ??? Trust me, apart from a few friends, she was the first for me. I still remember the smile ! Every now and then when people act rude, or irrational or irritating with me , I just remember this simple woman… I am sure she would have just politely replied back or smile back to these people unlike me…………. She taught me a lesson that day……….. a lesson of simplicity, giving more and expecting less and just being happy. Its these people that ultimately matter ….
