A farmer who taught me a lesson

The Farmer who taught me a lesson
As we drove along the quite road that lead us to the borders of Goa-Maharashtra, it was wonderful feeling, a much needed break from work , couple of my close friends , it was going to be a adventurous weekend. Clueless about directions or where we were going to stay , it was a journey into the unknown.
As we passed a village, we were amused at a bullock cart lying at the side of the road. We stopped a while to pose and click a few photographs against it, a bullock cart is indeed a rare sight to be seen today, being a girl who always loved the village life, and this indeed was a very good treat for me.
The poor farmer who was busy with his cows, stopped a while to inquire who we were and where we were heading. We exchange pleasant words, told him a little about Goa , perhaps he may have heard about Goa, cause with a smile he inquired, weather he  would get a job in Goa , I am not really sure what my friends replied but for me, he had the best job in the world. He lived amongst beautiful greenery,  a simple life and ate a simple meal. This was the same life that the shepherds who heard the good news of Christ birth lived too isn’t it ? And Christ had disciples who were fishermen,… which brought me to the realization that Christ would be with this man at that very moment cause he lives amongst the humble and the poor. He wants to be part of such lives…. There is nothing wrong in being rich but if you are rich with a big heart and a humble soul am sure you still close to him.
Moving on, our farmer, noticed the Samsung touchscreen mobile that was busy clicking snaps of our various poses, by the side of the bullock cart, on top of the bullock cart, riding the bullock cart, he was so amused by it , that he said he wanted to buy one. He inquired where he could purchase it and inquired about the cost, the amount told was 30,000! The answer received was “30,000 ! I have never seen such  money in my lifetime ! a smiling face seen after this statement. This poor man had not seen and perhaps would never see this numeric figure in his life, yet he  was so happy ………. Is money the root cause of evil ?? Why is it that I  don’t see a genuine smile amongst the rich as I saw it on the face of this farmer even though he had nothing ??!!
2 very important lessons we had learnt on that road, first the beauty in humbleness and second , you could be miserable but if you lived a life accepting the circumstances given to you without much greed of money, you can still be enjoying a beautiful life. This Christmas let’s remember to live a life ! A life of humility and of thankfulness, thanking baby Jesus for all the wonderful things he has given us without the greed of what our neighbors have that we don’t
